Today happens to be Flag Day. Yay for everyone like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory (side note: that show did NOT age well, but we can get into that some other time…)
Here are a couple of fun facts about this kinda not really holiday since no one takes off for it:
It started on June 14, 1777 when the OG American flag with the 13 stars and stripes was officially recognized by the colonies.
It’s also the birthday of the US Army, which was officially recognized by Congress June 14, 1775 (which makes sense since you can’t just rebel against a whole ass kingdom with random, unorganized musket-slingers!)
President Woodrow Wilson issued a presidential proclamation officially declaring June 14 as Flag Day almost 100 years ago!
Surprising amount of history for a random day! 🇺🇸
Lesson learned this week: it’s okay to just do NOTHING so you can do SOMETHING better :)
We all have one of those days when we’re like “screw all of this, I just wanna do nothing!” And because we all have a ton of responsibilities now, we’re all like “I can’t NOT do nothing, I have too much on my plate!”
That was definitely me yesterday when I just had to take a walk to clear my head; it was just one of those days where I felt a little emotionally constipated so taking time for myself was like mental Pepto Bismol.
Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s OKAY to just chill for a little bit. Especially when we have so much going on that we can’t even see something through to fruition.
Heck, that’s why I had to step away from that nightmare project I talked about last week because I know it was not going to end well and no one would’ve been happy with the results, especially since my priorities shifted.
So take note from arguably the wisest piece of advice Ron Swanson gave on Parks and Rec about prioritizing (and he said this nugget of wisdom while he was ordering Leslie to take a much-needed sabbatical when she was running herself into the ground.)
Don’t beat yourself up if you need to take a step back for a bit to get your bearings so you can take a BIG step forward into something better!

Drink from message fail - Skittles and the wrong pride
Remember when Skittles forfeited their rainbow for Pride? Yeah, there’s a reason why they don’t really do that anymore when retailers label those bags like THIS.
Great job Skittles…too bad your retail partner didn’t think that far ahead
